Hello. How have you been?
There’s a book I want to buy called ‘Noise.’ It has nothing to do with food, but everything to do with decision making.
In Noise, Daniel Kahneman, Olivier Sibony and Cass R. Sunstein show how noise produces errors in many fields, including in medicine, law, public health, economic forecasting, forensic science, child protection, creative strategy, performance review and hiring.
And rather than ordering it online, I'm thinking of driving the 8 miles to my nearest bookstore, so I can peruse the bookshelves and speak to a human being who may come up to me asking if they can help me find what I am looking for. This is something you don’t get online. It’s a search box with no human contact. Feeling the book in your hand and reading the intro before you buy seems to be a luxury these days. There are a few new cookbooks I want to buy, too. Perhaps I’ll get them at the same time.
It’s taken all week, since my return from Whitby, to catch up on adding to the FoodStak index of food writers and publications. Below are the most recent writers added to the list. I get to read all of their bios and a few of their posts, and I can tell you there are some interesting and wonderful reads.

Events
While watching the replay of a recent live chat by Seth Werkheiser I heard Seth suggest people might want to set up an event page for their local community, a place where people go to get all the info on what’s going on in their locality.
So I went one step further and set up an Events page on FoodStak, organised by food writers around the world. Discover what Live Chats, Cookalongs, Meetups, and Retreats are happening near you and online.
Events listed include
- who is holding a cookalong on 27th September
- , who is holding several events through September, October and an in-person retreat in 2026.
If you have an event that you would like to be listed, click the button below.
Other News

A timely reminder to all publishers to download or back up your publications. Once again, I have seen something on Notes where someone has lost all of their Substack content because of a glitch or while trying to merge their accounts. Once it’s gone, there’s no coming back. It’s been deleted permanently. So before you do anything else today, start the download now.
On a lighter note, I’ve reposted this Pastry Crimping Techniques because it’s such a simple way to make your tarts and pies look a little prettier. Rustic, maybe.
